I rarely pen anything political, but the meeting that took place on Friday between Mr. Zelensky and Mr. Trump is haunting. It wasn’t necessarily what was said, but how.
Respect was absent in the Oval Office when it should have greeted President Zelensky at the door.
I thought of other Presidents who graced the Oval who chose diplomacy over tyranny.
FDR at the Yalta Conference in 1945 with England’s Winston Churchill and Russia’s Joseph Stalin, agreeing to the unconditional surrender of Germany who was unabashedly bullying the world. I feel that’s what we’re doing now, throwing our weight around without care nor grace.
I then thought of Lincoln during the American Civil War trying to peacefully placate the south without rancor or malice; wanting it to just respectfully end.
Peace has always been the primary goal. What happened? When did it go missing?
The definition of humanity is the human race collectively. Has the new administration rewritten Webster’s too?
There was a heartfelt cartoon on Instagram that made me take pause. The cartoonist had his head on his desk. The caption read…There will be no cartoon today. I’ve never been more ashamed of my country.
