Worst Story Of The Week

And the phone shall inherit the earth.

I’m in the park on Sunday at 6 a.m., not a soul in sight except for one man sprinkling salt on the road.

I’m delighted that it snowed just enough to be beautiful, but not too much to prevent me from running.

Grace in her winter white.

I hear something behind me like mice in a wall, turning around to find a woman on her phone when it’s not even light yet.

I shoot from the hip, slim as they are.

I look at her first in disbelief because even though it happens all day long, I’m still stunned by how peace is so undervalued.

She tells whomever to hold on and looks at me, “Yes?”

I go off the rails.

“Do you know what time it is, and it’s Sunday by the way, and you’re permeating the atmosphere with your bullshit?”

Yes I said that.

Now it’s her turn to look stunned.

As I start to walk away she screams…

“THIS IS AMERICA…I CAN TALK ON MY PHONE ANYTIME, ANYWHERE I WANT.”

Let me say, I’ve been in a tender mood over our country, reading far too much about the Parkland, Florida shooting last Wednesday, feeling sad for everyone involved…disappointed in our laws that don’t protect any of us, especially our children, so bragging about America was quite untimely.

I march up to her in full flush and say, “Lady you can take that FUCKING phone and shove it up your fat First Amendment ass…ya hear me? Yeah, America’s great when it works in your favor, isn’t it?”

I have to say my ire scared her, along with myself, as she ran away leaving me a tad embarrassed, but so be it.

I’m genuinely angry at what’s been going on, and not just at the NRA taking advantage of the Second Amendment.

Congress in general is pissing me off.

This, whose dick is bigger business has gotten old, and that goes for Mr. Trump who should be the example and zip up, and I see he’s at least trying, the parent in him coming out.

I can’t say enough how impressed I am with these kids demanding stronger gun laws in the aftermath of this latest tragedy. Seeing their friends gunned down has transformed their pain into a crusade in their memory, making them worthy opponents to those suits on the Hill.

Once again, I’ll exhume John Quincy Adams who, in 1830 when first entering the House of Representatives when asked, what party he belonged to, said…

‘I belong to no party. I represent the nation.’

Whether it’s an unconscious woman in the park or the Republicans duking it out with the Democrats causing the unrest, what is best for the nation so we feel safe?

That’s what I want to know.

And so does John Quincy, wherever he is.
