It all began last Christmas assuming I wouldn’t be getting any presents. My two best friends I exchanged gifts with for years are both gone. And as you may recall, Camille and I weren’t speaking.
Throw in, there’s no man in my life then or now, so acceptance of this fact is the order of the day.
I’m actually okay with this, since it is what it is, learning not to expect anything.
Expectations are premeditated resentments, a popular 12 Step slogan, and one that’s very true.
When you’re waiting for someone to remember you, and they don’t, it can be quite crushing.
On a brighter note, giving is a great antidote, knowing someone will smile due to your heartfelt efforts
It’s warming, like a stroll in the sun.
And of course, surprises do happen like my pal Pam presenting me with a Starbucks gift card and the oranges sweet Joanne sent from Florida. We do love the practical gesture.
Then come to find out, my good friend, Chris Mazzilli, also gave me a present, and a perfect one at that.
The Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. apparently was bequeathed all the jewelry JFK gave Jackie while she was First Lady.
There’s actually a permanent exhibition entitled…First Ladies…I realize I’ve seen where these very special pieces are displayed.
The commercial powers that be, made copies of all 15 for purchase from their very spiffy catalog.
But that’s not all, and here’s where I come in.
They also reproduced Jackie’s signature sunglasses she had specially made, her eyes being so far apart having trouble finding glasses to cover them…a problem I’ve always had (along with ET) as well.
I adore Raybans, but resemble a bumble bee when attempting to wear them.
Chris sweetly ordered me a pair of Jackie’s.
They’re beautiful for starters , something you’d expect since who was classier than she, coming with polycarbonate lenses with 100% U400, UVA and UVB protection…pewter inlays. A steel case along with a certificate of authenticity…a bit of an oxymoron, since let’s face it, they’re copies, but still chic as all giddy-up, a perfect way to put it Jackie being the avid equestrian and all.
And quite frankly…a little glamour is quite often just what a thin girl on a holiday or any other day, just may need.
:)
