Coffee..My Drug Of Choice

I love coffee. If possible, I’d have an IV of Dark Roast tangoing up my arm.

My friend David just sent me two pounds of the best blend Erie, Pennsylvania has to offer. Considering all the bad press the Keystone State’s been getting, it sure needs the plug.

It’s election day, and we’re all on the edge of our seats awaiting what will be.

My friend in Florida is so certain of anarchy she’s bought food for a week before bolting her door. She’s not taking any chances.

She wisely voted early, and now worried about me.

I’ll admit the city is tense like you can feel its pulse, yet being one of her creatures, fear not. After surviving September 11th, three garbage strikes and a blackout while drunk, I’m like a cat that if worse came to worse would just hide under a car.

I can see myself chewing a hotdog saying…go ahead, make my day. Well, if I ate meat that is.

Loved that Clint Eastwood film, Dirty Harry.

But back to coffee. When I gave up drinking six and a half years ago, joined the Church of Starbucks.

It opens at 6 a.m. and like any good church, all are welcome.

I’ve been warned too much coffee will quicken my heartbeat.

Good, I say. Better than having a liver that looks like Swiss Cheese. I like feeling my ticker sprinting in my chest, reminding me it’s time for my next refill.

 This is what I know.

All things pass, good and bad. Just recap 1968 and you’ll feel better about 2024.

And remember, God bats last whether you belong to the Church of Starbucks or not.

So, God bless America, and long may she make coffee in all her neurotic, noble 50 states.

  Amen!
