I’m walking up Madison after my run, looking at all the stores boarded up like an old abandoned movie set, fearing post election looting.
There are two young construction workers sipping coffee by the corner synagogue I can’t help looking at.
They’re right out of Elia Kazan’s classic film, East of Eden, with their tight Levis and well-worked-in denim shirts, red neckerchiefs rather than masks dangling defiantly…dusty boots, dappled with dares.
One of them, his boot perched on a bench, is combing his wavy, black hair.
As I pass we make eye contact.
“Ya gotta a date?” I ask, smirking like a cat.
“Two,” he says, without missing a beat.
He winks…
I giggle.
Did Mr. Kazan just say cut, or am I just dreamin’? ![]()
